VERG Brooklyn proudly serves more than 30,000 cases each year, making us one of the most trusted providers of veterinary care in the tri-state area. As part of our commitment to the future of veterinary medicine, we welcome veterinary students to participate in externships at our hospital and encourage them to pursue internships through the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program.

Externs at VERG gain invaluable experience in a fast-paced hospital setting that combines 24/7 emergency medicine with advanced specialty care. Students shadow experienced veterinarians and board-certified specialists across multiple departments, observing diverse cases and learning how collaborative medicine helps ensure the best outcomes for patients.

About the VERG Externship Program

Our externship program offers veterinary students the opportunity to observe high-quality medicine in both emergency and specialty practice:

  • Emergency & Critical Care

Externs shadow doctors in our 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care service, observing how we stabilize, monitor, and treat urgent cases in partnership with local primary care veterinarians.

  • Specialty Surgery

Led by board-certified experts, our surgical department exposes externs to a wide variety of cases including orthopedics, neurosurgery, and soft tissue surgery.

  • Advanced Diagnostics

VERG provides access to state-of-the-art imaging technology, including ultrasound, digital radiography, CT, and MRI.
