Skin and allergy concerns are a common and often frustrating reason that owners seek veterinary care.
While sometimes easily recognizable, there are many underlying causes that may be responsible for your pet’s discomfort. Diagnosis and management of these conditions can prove challenging for even the most experienced veterinarian. In these instances, your primary care veterinarian may refer you to a board-certified veterinary dermatologist.
Board-certified veterinary dermatologists have specialized expertise and training in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant disorders of the skin, hair, ears, and nails. Veterinary dermatologists may treat a range of issues, from chronic ear infections and adverse food reactions to environmental allergies and complicated bacterial infections.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At your pet’s initial dermatology appointment, we will perform an examination, evaluate their medical history, and discuss an overall plan. Initial diagnostics and treatments may also begin. Our team will continue to work closely with you and your primary care provider to guide you through diagnosis and subsequent treatment/follow-up.
